When I saw Girl Scouts selling cookies on my way home from church I knew I had to stop and get some! I picked up my favorites, Tagalongs, and the new flavor, Thank U Berry Munch, with cranberries and white chocolate. Of course I had to sample right away…
But I knew I needed to get some real fuel before my run, so I made a Green Monster smoothie with some Kale that was on its last leg.
This smoothie contained:
- 1 cup 1% milk
- 1 frozen banana
- ~ 1 1/2 cups kale
- 1 tbsp ground flax seeds
- A few ice cubes
Don’t knock it ’til you’ve tried it! It may not look too appealing, but you’d be surprised how good it is. Salad greens are actually pretty mild tasting, so they become very sweet when mixed with fruit. Plus, it’s hard to get any more nutritious than kale!
Then I suited up for my run. I’ll tell you what, it was tough. And very slow. It seemed like every time I ran 100 ft I’d have to stop and walk because of an icy patch or climb over a pile of snow. My stats:
- Distance: 6.45 m
- Time: 1:12:41
- Avg Pace: 11:15/m
- Calories: 632 cal
I had only planned to run 6 miles. I hadn’t had a route planned out though. I was just running up and down random streets that looked clear. I lost track of where I was at a certain point and when I thought I only had about a mile to get home, it was more like 1.75 miles. I ran some of it and walked the rest home.
When I got home there was only one thing that I wanted.
After I stretched I properly refueled with 1/2 cup 0% Greek yogurt, a drizzle of honey, and 2 tbsp of raisins.
I’m off to grocery shop. Back for dinner!
