Happy Spring!

Today is so refreshing.  The combination of having more time to get ready this morning, getting to sleep in (until 6:30…), and walking out of my apartment to birds chirping and snow melting has put me in a very Zen kind of mood.  While I love having every other Friday off, I could definitely get used to NOT having to get up at 5:30 every morning.  That extra hour of sleep is divine.  Since I made Walnut and Dried Cherry Bars over the weekend, breakfast was a cinch!  I had one of the bars, plus two egg whites, scrambled with sea salt, cracked black pepper, paprika, and a little water and topped with salsa.

Oatmeal, I love you, but you make me late for work a lot.  I like not feeling rushed in the morning.  I may have to reserve you for weekend breakfasts :(.  Not only was I on time this morning, I even had time to wash my dishes and watch the news before I left!

Around 10:20 I dug into my morning snack, a small banana and a Trader Joe’s Organic Part-Skim Mozzarella String Cheese.

Yes, I do have a Barbie Doll in my office.  She keeps me company during the day.  She also needed a banana this morning since she lost a lot of electrolytes partying it up in Dupont this weekend.  Don’t worry Barbs, you rock the bed head look!  This string cheese wasn’t very stringy.  It wasn’t breaking apart like string cheese should!  Still tasty, though!

I had a really intense workout with Abu this afternoon.  We began with core work:

  • 20 sit-ups on an incline bench
  • Hold in sit-up position for 20 seconds
  • 10 “mini” bicycles on an incline
  • 30 seconds bicycle
  • 15 V-Ups on bench
  • 15 burpies into a shoulder press with 8-lb weights
  • 20 oblique twists on each side holding two 4-lb weights
  • 20 core lifts
  • 2 sets- 8 x 5 Russian twists with a medicine ball which was then thrown back and forth to Abu

Then we did our circuit, which was leg focused today.

  • 15 clean and press with a 30 lb barbell
  • 30 seconds moutain climbers while balancing with arms on the barbell (just in case regular mountain climbers weren’t torture enough)
  • 10 side leg lifts in plank position (bringing knee outside the body to the shoulder)
  • 25 jump squats
  • 10 jump lunges per leg

Repeat.  It was TOUGH!  I ended it all with a much needed stretch.

I got back to the office just in time to keep myself from eating my left arm.  I had this huge salad to dive into!

Mixed greens, celery, carrots, black beans, parmesan, and slivered almonds topped with basil vinaigrette.  This was tasty, but didn’t fill me up enough.  I need to pack larger lunches!  I ate my snack around 2:30.

3/4 of an apple (I ate the other two slices while packing my lunch last night!) and a tablespoon of almond butter.  About an hour after finishing this I needed a caffeine pick-me-up, so I dragged a coworker to Starbucks with me for a latte.

Tall skim latte, mixed with one packet of Truvia when I got back to the office.  It hit the spot.

Ok, food porn time.  Paula Deen is making mac and cheese.  Excuse me while I put a rubber band on the door (too much?  maybe…).
